Anette Kormann

Musician, Teacher

Biography

Anette KormannAnette Kormann is a Flute player with an equal passion for performing and teaching.

Anette has toured major parts of Sweden with various chamber ensembles, and has also performed on numerous occassions in central England. She has played in the Royal Orchestra of Uppsala and the Sinfonias of Eksjo and Tranas, and has sat in with the Swan Orchestra of Stratford.

Anette now lives in Birmingham with her husband and cats. She works as a woodwind teacher, as well as a free-lance Flautist, frequently performing with Duo das Flores (Flute and Guitar) and Duo Sonora (Flute and Voice).

During her studies, Anette took a special interest both in early and contemporary music. She studied the Recorder in order to appreciate the style and ornamentation of baroque music, and collaborated with colleague composer students, performing works for solo flute. At the conservatoire, Anette played both in the ensemble for authentic performance and in the Thallein ensemble, dedicated to contemporary music.

Communication and expression in performance is one of Anette's greatest interests - how to make the music speak to the audience, and to discover the innate colours - the soul -of each piece of music. In the last few years, she has found a new means to help develop this in the method of Dalcroze Eurhythmics. Through physical work on expression as well as pulse, rhythm and phrasing the performer gets to discover and develop the direction and levels of energy within the music and as a result can communicate the music much more clearly to the audience.

Anette Kormann Anette made her debut as a Flute soloist with Tranås Orkesterförening in 1987, performing Mozart's. Andante in C K315. She studied the Flute with Ingeborg Axner at Kapellsbergs Musikskola, Harnosand, Sweden, and later with Colin Lilley at Birmingham Conservatoire, where she graduated in 1994. She has participated in masterclasses and courses with a.o. Susan Milan, Lennart Ehrenlood and Kevin Gowland.  At the Conservatoire, she won the Ludlow Philharmonic Prize as well as the Conservatoire Concert Trials of 1994, and performed Ibert's Flute concerto at the 1994 Graduation concert. To broaden her musical skills, Anette has studied the recorder with Annika Lyne, Clarinet with Gill Reynolds and Saxophone with Felicity Sharp.

In her lessons, Anette tries to develop her pupils' ability to express their own musicality in their playing, through making sure they have a sound understanding of pulse, rhythm and notation, encouraging creativity through improvisation and giving them a rich musical language of expression - always encouraging independant thinking and self reflection.

Anette has worked in performing arts teaching for a decade. During this time, she has mostly worked as a woodwind teacher, but has also worked as a secondary class music teacher and with music in primary school. She was also teacher of dance for a year, and collaborated with drama specialists. In 2008, she completed the Dalcroze Certificate, gaining a teaching qualification for eurhythmics.

During the last few years, Anette has spent a lot of effort finding ways to improve the preparatory music tuition, giving young pupils the chance to make the most out of their instrumental lessons, and also to increase the interest for instrumental lessons. Her work with Ocarinas has been one of these projects.
