A Musical Dialogue

Duo Sonora can offer a number of different programmes to suit various environments and audiences. For the 2008-2009 season we have put together three programmes, each with a different focus.

Anette Kormann and Maria Sennvall started their work together with "Ten Blake Songs" by the English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams, written for voice with a wind instrument. Sinced Anette and Maria had studied together in England, the choice of English music felt natural.Since then the repertoire has expanded to include music by Bach, Ibert and Roussel as well as Swedish folk chorals, which have given the duo its special colour. A musical dialogue, weaving classical and folk pieces to a glittering weave.

The combination of unaccompanied voice and flute could be considered rather unusual, but is filled with possibilities. We have taken some liberties, and re-arranged pieces originally composed for other ensembles. The Swedisn folk chorals are very well suited for this ensemble, performed as a dialogue, where the flute emphasises the message in the lyrics. Since neither a piano or an organ is needed for the performance, Duo Sonora is very flexible in terms of location, and can even perform outdoors, weather allowing.

Uti vår hage- en Nordisk sommarafton (A Nordic Summer's Eve)

The programme has a thread of folk music. Apart from the chorals which envelop the programme, we have included folk tunes for flute and our own arrangements of popular Swedish hymns. The theme of the songs is Nature, the music is melodic and easly on the ear. A program to cherish in the Swedish Summer evening.

Drömmar för själen (Dreams of the Soul)

In this programme we take the listener on a musical journey. All the music has a link to the subject of dreaming or the wanderings of the soul. The programme is focussed on music from the begining of the 20th century up to today, but always pleasurable and inviting. All pieces are introduced and given a context. The programme includes a.o. music by Ibert, Roussell, Bozza, Panufnik, Piazzolla.
